Tips to Stay Motivated

February 12, 2018 by Steph Leave a Comment

Today kicks off the Seven Day Kindness challenge, but I’m not going to delve into that too much because you can get all those details in the best Facebook group ever. But this challenge has gotten me thinking about motivation and how to get it and keep it because I gotta tell y’all, as much as I want to be kind, my petty side wins out a lot. So how am I going to keep motivated through all this?

...as much as I want to be kind, my petty side wins out a lot.Click To Tweet

1. I’ve stated a public intention to be kinder. So now I’ve got folks watching me and I don’t want to let them down. (Or prove the haters right. Heh.)

2. I’m not in it alone. By having a group of friends who are in this with me, I have a support system for the days when I just don’t want to be kind, dammit. They can help me get back on track.

3. I dumped the “all or nothing” mindset. If I slip, no big deal. Just try again. Eventually, enough tries to do the thing will turn into a habit of just doing the thing.

4. I’ve got my “why” solidly in place, and I’ve put up little reminders all over the place to help me remember I want to feel more aligned with my best self.

So what about you? Do you have any motivation tips or tricks to share? Hit the comments and do tell.

5 Ways to Get out of Your Head RIGHT NOW

October 10, 2017 by Steph Leave a Comment

We’ve all found ourselves wallowing in a muddy pit of negative feelings or overthinking our next move, and it seems like the longer we wallow, the harder it is to get out of our own heads. So, here are five tips to help you get out of your head right now.

1. Get up and change locations. Even if it’s just moving from your bedroom to your couch, a change of scenery (even a tiny one) can help you get a new perspective.
2. Get some exercise. Get up and do some jumping jacks or, if you’re into it, some burpees. It’s pretty hard to throw a pity party when you’re jumping around, homie.
3. Have an impromptu dance party. I even have some playlists you can use.
4. Talk to a trusted friend. I’ve found talking it out can often help me get a fresh perspective.
5. Write a list of ways to get out of your own head. Or maybe tips on how to apologize. Or why you have to meet your people where they are.

So, there you have it – five quick ways to get out of your own head, but maybe you have some ideas of your own. Share them in the comments, please!

Friday Favorites: August 11, 2017

August 11, 2017 by Steph Leave a Comment

Okay, so one of the things I love most on other blogs is when they do any kind of list of shit they love, and yet I’ve never done one on my blog. That seems dumb to me, so I’m going to fix that right now with this inaugural edition – Friday Favorites: August 11, 2017. MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THIS HISTORIC-ASS DAY.

1. “The 5 Second Rule” by Mel Robbins. OH MAN. Y’all. If you don’t already have this book, go get it. Right now. I’m not kidding. Go. I’ll wait, and when you’re back? YOU ARE WELCOME. In the past 3 days, I have 5-4-3-2-1-GO!’d my way through a To Do list that’s been sitting here for a month. I really like this approach because it’s also effective at redirecting myself when I start getting caught up in my own head. A simple “5-4-3-2-1 GO!” is proving to be a really fantastic way to flip that worry switch OFF. Seriously, GET. THIS. BOOK.

2. Life Token bracelets. I just ordered one that says “5-4-3-2-1” on top, “#GetGood” on the bottom. Pretty awesome, right? And way easier to switch up than a tattoo on my wrist. Heh.

3. This video. I don’t know why I find this so hilarious, but y’all. It gets me EVERY TIME, and…like…I’ve watched this more than once. Don’t judge me.

4. “Go Yo’ Ass to Sleep” by…well…ME. Yes, I’m tooting my own horn, but it’s seriously really good, y’all. I’m not the only one who says so even! LOL If you want to check it out, you have to subscribe to my newsletter.

5. Last but certainly not least, Cait Gavina has an Instant Pot series that has me nearly ready to try using the IP I got on Black Friday and haven’t used because I’m 99.9% sure I will wind up blowing our house up. (P.S. She offers the cutest fucking recipe card for IP Sweet Tea for signing up for her newsletter. OMG.)

“Go Yo’ Ass to Sleep” is finally here!

August 7, 2017 by Steph Leave a Comment

image of mountains with text that reads @quirkyblogger presents: thug life meditations: go yo' ass to sleep

So, a few weeks ago, I was chatting with Missy about the miscellaneous sleep apps we both use, and I said offhandedly, “Wouldn’t it be funny to do a ‘thug life’ riff on all these ‘go to bed’ meditations? Like ‘go yo’ ass to sleep’ or something?”

Then I thought about how Angiee has told me she’s used videos I made for her to help her with WordPress® to soothe her baby to sleep. (She calls it my “Shweddy Balls voice” which fucking kills me every time.)

So it went from joking to serious pretty quickly because I realized I’d really LOVE to do something like that. If I did it properly, it would be fun and also useful.

Then? I got in my own head. I had all these reasons why I couldn’t do it. I needed to move my mic and get music and write the perfect script and find secure hosting…and OMFG, HOW EXHAUSTING, NEVER MIND. But the idea wouldn’t go away. I put out feelers to my groups, and they all seemed into it. So WTF, man? Just GET IT DONE, STEPH. Fucksake.

So finally, I decided to just open up Garage Band and go. I mean, why not? I was only doing it for fun, and I was giving it away to folks who subscribe to my newsletter. I wasn’t trying to sell this to a label…or anyone at all. It was just a goof that managed to turn into a project. NO PRESSURE. And it’s done. Finally. Also? I think it might actually be kinda awesome.

It’s also given me a bunch of other ideas for guided meditations, so those projects are now in the works. Hopefully, they won’t take as long as this one. HA! ANYWAY. If this sounds like something you’re into, subscribe to my newsletter, hey? My subscribers will be the first ones in the know about new projects so kill your FOMO by being on that list.

Once you’ve taken a listen, I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts!

Please be kind (and remember it’s not always about you).

So, something I try to keep in mind when someone lashes out at me is it’s probably not about me at all. It probably has a lot more to do with them and their issues than anything else, so I need to be kind. This ‘Scope went into that idea in depth.

Hi, I’m Steph!

I'm reading books (mostly) from Kindle Unlimited so you don't have to...unless they're awesome and well-worth your valuable reading time.

You're welcome. 😂
