And to everyone else, Happy JustAnotherManicMondayExceptAmericanBanksAreClosedSoThisIsWhatItFeelsLikeForTheYanksOnBoxingDay! Americans celebrate our independence every Fourth of July, and I’d very much like all of you to embrace this as a time to celebrate your own independence. Your independence from relying on outside approval. Your independence from caring what others think of you. Your independence of self. Your independent self.
Because you, my loves, are enough. You always have been; you always will be. Keep in mind, I’m not talking about financial independence (although I think you deserve that and can have it) or physical independence (sometimes, we do require the aid of others, that is not shameful), but spiritual independence. The idea that you are wholly formed and complete on your own. I think once you get that concept, the rest all just falls into place.
You are enough. Where your journey takes you from here is up to you. It’s your choice. You can declare your own independence from the…well, the bullshit that’s weighing you down and keeping you from being fully you. So, happy Independence Day. To all of us.
